Boyfriend Went Vegan (by officialpeta)
What?? WHAT?
Now, I’m all good with treating animals better. Be vegan if you want to, awesome. Even have as rough a sex as you like to, that’s fine. BUT this AD not only portrays veganism in a weird light, it completely misrepresents what a good sexual relationship should be, and promotes it as something positive. And that alone kind of ticks me off.
Their defense for this ad has been ‘but look, she clearly doesn’t mind/enjoys it, look at that smirk at the end,’ but that is flimsy at best. If this was a slightly masochistic relationship, or even just rough sex in general, I could understand that explanation - but it’s clearly not portrayed that way. They’re not being safe in the least, it’s all about the man’s sexual prowess, and how it was so powerful it hurt a woman. This ad portrays her in a NECK BRACE and ALMOST NAKED going to run errands FOR her boyfriend, and up until the end, doesn’t look too happy about it. Nobody should get that hurt in a normal relationship, unless it was a mistake (which, judging by the guy’s reaction, it was), people being stupid, or worse.
Regardless over whether she actually liked it or not, nobody should be making ads flaunting something that looks more like abuse and Stockholm Syndrome than a healthy relationship, and promoting an image of what looks like a battered woman by portraying her half-naked and sexualized, taking shots up her jacket. I think her ass is featured almost as much as her face.
What’s almost more disturbing to me is the amount of people who find this really funny and say that bitches need to get over it. And also, that there are more ads PETA put out along these lines with women ‘loving everything’ - constant sex, injuries, etc. Makes them sound more like creepy brainwashed fuck machines who can’t say no to their now-amazing boyfriend than someone well-balanced.
